FREDAGSBAR · LIVE FROM DENMARK

THE LAST FRIDAY
OF EVERY MONTH.

19:00 Copenhagen time · until we go cold.

A monthly Twitch night with music, requests, friends, chat and the sort of quiet Danish chaos that usually starts with somebody saying, “We’ll just take it easy tonight.”

MONTHLY TRANSMISSION 01

Once a month is probably enough.

FREDAGSBAR happens on the last Friday of every month. Not every Friday. Not whenever somebody remembers. The last Friday. That is the arrangement.

At 19:00 Copenhagen time, the stream goes live. From there, the end time is less scientific.

Officially, the programme continues until we go cold.

That may mean several hours. It may mean somebody says “one more” and accidentally creates another hour. It may mean the playlist develops opinions of its own. We prefer not to make promises that Friday night has no intention of keeping.

02

MONTHLY TRANSMISSION 02

A very Danish Friday.

If you are not from Denmark, fredagsbar is one of those wonderfully simple ideas that does not need improving.

The working week ends. The laptop closes. Someone finds something cold. Music appears. People stay a little longer than planned. Nobody is particularly interested in Monday.

FREDAGSBAR takes that feeling and puts it on Twitch.

No velvet rope. No dress code. No need to leave your house. Your sofa, kitchen, terrace, garden, summer house or gathering with friends will do perfectly well.

03

MONTHLY TRANSMISSION 03

There is a plan.

Probably.

The evening usually begins in a suspiciously organised way. Music is prepared. Equipment is ready. Graphics are running. Everybody appears to know what they are doing.

Then Twitch chat arrives.

One person requests a song. Someone remembers something from 1998. Another person has an opinion. Emotes appear. A completely unnecessary discussion begins.

Twenty minutes later, nobody can remember the original plan.

This is not considered a technical fault.

04

MONTHLY TRANSMISSION 04

The music should feel like Friday.

There is no complicated musical manifesto. If it works at FREDAGSBAR, it works.

Some tracks are carefully selected. Some arrive through requests. Some appear because a conversation in chat suddenly reminds us of a song nobody has heard in twenty years.

And occasionally something gets played that makes the entire chat stop for a moment and ask a very reasonable question:

“Why?”

There may not always be a satisfactory answer.

05

MONTHLY TRANSMISSION 05

Music requests. A small exercise in trust.

When requests are open, viewers can help shape the night.

Most people use this power responsibly. They request a classic. A forgotten favourite. A track that fits the room. Something everybody immediately recognises.

Others see the request system as an opportunity to test the structural integrity of the broadcast.

We know who you are.

But that is exactly why requests matter. FREDAGSBAR should not feel like a fixed playlist being transmitted at an audience. The audience can push the night somewhere else.

06

MONTHLY TRANSMISSION 06

Twitch chat is the other DJ.

Some people write constantly. Some appear every twenty minutes with one highly specific observation. Some communicate mainly through emotes. Some quietly lurk for four hours and never type a word.

All of them are part of the show.

You can arrive knowing nobody. Say hello. Request a song when requests are open. Join a ridiculous conversation. Or simply leave the stream running and enjoy the music.

There is no correct level of participation.

07

MONTHLY TRANSMISSION 07

Your place becomes part of FREDAGSBAR.

The party does not happen in one room. It happens everywhere the stream is playing.

Maybe you are watching from the living room. Maybe friends have taken over the kitchen. Maybe the weather has been optimistic enough for the terrace. Maybe you are at the summer house. Maybe Twitch is running on the biggest television you could find.

Share a picture from your own Friday setup. Nothing staged. Nothing fancy. Friends, snacks, a screen, a drink, a dog questioning everyone’s decisions — perfect.

Your Friday bar becomes part of ours.

MONTHLY TRANSMISSION 08

Live means live.

A microphone may object. A button may be pressed at a surprisingly creative moment. Technology may decide that Friday is a suitable time to develop a personality.

Usually we fix it. Sometimes chat diagnoses it. Sometimes turning something off and on again remains the most advanced engineering solution available.

Then the music continues.

09

MONTHLY TRANSMISSION 09

Understated chaos.

FREDAGSBAR is not about shouting “crazy party” every thirty seconds.

The better version is when everything appears perfectly normal while the evening slowly becomes less normal.

Someone says “just one more”. Someone requests something deeply questionable. An inside joke appears from nowhere. The clock moves faster than expected.

Nobody panics.

We are Danish. We simply continue.

10

MONTHLY TRANSMISSION 10

The community is the reason it works.

Regular viewers recognise each other. New people become regulars. Somebody disappears for a month and returns as if they only went to the kitchen. Stories continue from one FREDAGSBAR to the next. Inside jokes develop without anybody being able to identify the original meeting minutes.

That is the part of Twitch we like most.

The DJs may operate the decks, but the people watching turn a broadcast into a place worth returning to.

FREDAGSBAR is a DJ show with a community attached to it — or possibly a community using a DJ show as an excuse to meet once a month.

We have not reached a final conclusion.
