DJ FOLSOE — Music Has Always Been Part of the Story

DJ FOLSOE is the online home of Danish music enthusiast, broadcaster and amateur DJ Sune Folsø — born in 1974 and shaped by a lifelong fascination with music, radio and the magic of sharing a great song with other people.

Long before streaming platforms, digital DJ software and online broadcasting existed, the journey had already begun.

Growing up in Denmark, Sune was fascinated by music from an early age. In the days when discovering new music meant listening carefully to the radio and waiting for your favourite song to appear, he was already creating his own collections.

It started with recording songs from the radio onto reel-to-reel tape, and later, during the mid-1980s, onto cassette tapes.

Anyone who grew up in that era will remember the challenge: sitting next to the radio with a blank cassette ready, waiting for the right song, trying to press REC at exactly the right moment — and hoping the radio presenter wouldn't start talking before the song had finished.

Those homemade tapes were probably the first DJ FOLSOE playlists.

There were no algorithms, no streaming services and no instant access to millions of tracks. Discovering music required curiosity, patience and a good pair of ears.

And that fascination never disappeared.

FROM CASSETTE TAPES TO DIGITAL BROADCASTING

Over the years, the technology changed dramatically.

Vinyl, tapes and CDs gave way to digital music, DJ software, streaming services and eventually live broadcasting to audiences around the world.

But one thing remained exactly the same: The excitement of finding a great track and sharing it with somebody else.

Today, that passion has evolved into DJ FOLSOE on Twitch — a personal music television and radio-inspired universe where DJ sets, broadcasting, graphics, interaction and a love of music come together.

DJ FOLSOE isn't about pretending to be the biggest nightclub DJ on the planet. It is about something much simpler: Playing music because music is fun.

Sune describes himself as an On-Air Personality, Voiceover Wizard and Amateur DJ — someone who loves the atmosphere surrounding music just as much as the technical act of mixing it.

The microphone is part of the experience. The audience is part of the experience. And the unpredictable moments of live broadcasting are definitely part of the experience.

Welcome to the DJ FOLSOE Residence on Twitch — a place where decades of musical memories meet modern electronic music and live internet broadcasting.

There isn't one single musical formula here.

A typical DJ FOLSOE stream can travel through Electronic Dance Music, Trance, House, Nu-Disco, Dance Pop, Eurodance and club classics, while other shows explore the enormous catalogue of music that has shaped radio, clubs and dance floors over the past several decades.

And then there are the mornings. Sometimes the tempo changes completely.

Early-morning broadcasts can move into mainstream pop, familiar radio hits and feel-good records from the 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and today — the kind of music designed to accompany that first coffee, the drive to work or simply the beginning of another day.

That variety is intentional. DJ FOLSOE was never created around the idea that good music belongs to one particular genre or decade.

If a record creates a feeling, brings back a memory, makes somebody smile or suddenly turns a living room into a dance floor, it belongs in the universe.

DJ FOLSOE draws inspiration from all of it.

There is respect for the classics, excitement about discovering something new and absolutely no requirement that a great record must have been released recently.

Sometimes the perfect track was released last Friday. Sometimes it was released forty years ago.

The only important question is: Does it work right now?

Technology will continue to change.

The cassette recorder disappeared. Music became digital. Radio became streaming. The bedroom music collection became access to millions of tracks.

And a listener in Denmark can now press a button and suddenly share a musical moment with people hundreds or thousands of kilometres away.

But somewhere underneath all that technology, DJ FOLSOE is still powered by exactly the same curiosity as the kid sitting beside the radio decades ago, waiting for the next great song to begin.

Only now there is no cassette to turn over. There is a Twitch channel. There is a microphone. There is an audience. And there is always another track waiting.
